Phil Sawin

Updates

March 22, From Ruth and Ellie Sawin:

Thank you to everyone for your kind words and thoughts and prayers. We have such a wonderful horse community and we are so grateful for your support and love through this very difficult time.

We confirmed today that USEA will allow us to run our event on April 9th and so we will “kick on” and with the help of many hands it will happen and be a tribute to Phil. We will need lots of help prior to the event and on the day of the event. Toni Stevens will be coordinating some work days on the weekend preceding the show. You can reach her at saddle1up@sbcglobal.net . Starting now and on the day of the show Sharon Munro and Jeannine Powers will be coordinating jump judges—please contact them to let them know if you can jump judge: Sharon Munro smunro@portertrk.com; Jeannine Powers jpowers@rcseagles.org –even if you have already contacted me—please let them know as well. We need about 30 people for XC judging.

I have most of the other positions filled, but there are still several dressage jobs---Bit Check and Runners and possibly 1 dressage scribe that need to be filled. Stadium will need a crew----timers, scribe and jump crew. You can let me know if you are able to fill any of these positions.

We are planning a Celebration of Phil’s Life following the USEA event on April 9th. Plans are for a Memorial service beginning at 6:30 PM at Pine Hill. We just feel it is fitting to honor Phil at his beautiful farm, outside, surrounded by horses and horse friends. Now everyone pray for good weather.

I apologize for not responding to everyone’s emails and phone calls—but please know that I’m reading and hearing them and they help me keep going. THANK YOU!!!!!

Ruth

Trust Fund

As most of the horse world is now aware, there is very sad news for all of our equestrian friends. Our dear friend, fellow equestrian and owner of Pine Hill Equestrian center, Phil Sawin, had a tragic accident last Friday morning at Pine Hill and passed due to his injuries (not horse related ). Our sincere sympathy and prayers go to his wife, Ruth, and their daughter during this terrible loss. I know that many people have been touched with their kindness and commitment to the horse community and will be eager to offer a helping hand in many ways .

A legal trust fund has been created and opened at Sterling Bank for all individuals that would like to contribute.

The way funds can be contributed are:

ALL CHECKS ARE TO BE MADE PAYABLE TO "PHIL SAWIN MEMORIAL TRUST FUND"

1) by mail: Send a check, payable to "Phil Sawin Memorial Trust Fund", to Sterling Bank, Phil Sawin Memorial Trust Fund, 15000 Northwest Freeway, Houston, TX 77040. Please enclose a note with the check as to the fund you wish it be contributed to.
